Computing Environment
The Computer Science Department operates several large computer systems for education, research, and administration. These systems, together with many other research computers, are connected to SUNnet, the university-wide Ethernet system and to the nationwide NSF and BARnet networks.
The Computer Science Department, together with individual research groups, also operates and supports hundreds of workstations. Intel, Digital Equipment Corporation, SUN Microsystems, Hewlett Packard, Silicon Graphics and IBM are among the most prominent vendors of the workstations. These systems are all connected to the department's ethernet. The various ethernets are then routed to the university FDDI backbone.
